1/2 way there!

Gene is 2 weeks into this 28 day program and I am beyond excited for you to SEE the results so far!

Started at 201,  he is officially down 11lbs in 2 weeks!!! Way to go Gene!!  I am so excited for him,  he is making me want to push  harder because I have.... well lets just say put on a few with the recent festivities around our house. Time for the Flynn's to be on track together!!!!

Day 11 of 28

It's day 11!  How is Gene doing?
The scale tonight said....... 193......  that is 8lbs in 11 days, not bad!!!! Sunday will be the half way point for him. When I mentioned that to him his comment was "it hasn't been too bad overall. More of a mental thing, telling myself to stay on track and not give in to temptation and not  follow my old habits."

Day 7 of 28

1 Week down! (it's Jen here writing this one). I am sooooo encouraged and motivated by how Gene is doing! I can't wait to tell you how much weight he has lost in ONE week! ..............193 !!!!!!
That's 8lbs in ONE WEEK! He has followed the program and the principles exactly! So let me tell you what he is noticing!

  • More energy
  • clearer thinking - (he was unaware he had brain fog)
  • regularity
  • more even mood
  • not thinking about his next fix (pop, candy, sweets)
Let me tell you this man is so excited to see the end result, how he feels! He said to me "I am trying to eat to live instead of live to eat" He is noticing that the foods he is putting into his body are nourishing him. In just one short week is noticing a significant difference which motivates him to keep going.

What is he struggling with? We added exercise on wednesday and he is sore. Also, he trying to get use to the feeling of "I feel full, but I don't feel that extended full" What he is describing is that he feels satisfied after he eats.  Prior to this he would skip a meal and then OVER eat at the next to get his tummy to feel that extended, over full feeling. He is also having a hard time getting all his water in everyday. 100 ounces

His challenge this past week was our kiddos birthday...... he came through with flying colors! We served Chioptle style lunch. Gene could have everything except:  sour cream (I use Fage yogurt nobody even new! ) no Cheese, no Guacamole. What he did have?:  Corn tortilla, brown rice, chicken no salt seasoning, lettuce, beans, salsa. And for dessert... Artic Zone chocolate mint, (it's like a frozen protein smoothie!  AWESOME FIRST WEEK GENE!!!!!!

Day 5 of 28 days

......still alive!
I started a workout program yesterday...... Today I am ending my workout program. I believe in baby steps.
No really it's going good. I'm surprised how good I'm doing drinking water since I am a former pop and milk drinker. mostly pop
I am noticing already that my taste buds are different. Flavors are stronger. My breakfast of egg whites, hash browns, salsa and spinach (cooked in olive oil) taste REALLY good.
Energy level is good.
I did a workout program last night, it was a 30 minute fit body bootcamp workout. Jen's trainer recommended. We downloaded the app,  -  Fat Furnace App
It was easy to follow, a good first workout..... I am really sore today. I was surprised how out of shape I am. Tonight I just did the elliptical 10 min but I will day 2 workout tomorrow.
My weight 196.... down 5 pounds.

Day 3 of 28 days

Gene here, thought I'd give you an update on my progress.
It's day 3, I got on the scale tonight and it said 197.5 (down 3.5 lbs!) The first day was hard, I craved sugar, I used gum got me through. Monday I noticed a bit more energy during the day and my wife says the color in my face looks better.
Today I still have good energy, I am not hungry at all. But I don't feel full, like that feeling you get when you expand your belly because you have eaten a lot. Jen says "you shouldn't feel like you overeat at a meal" I disagree but If I think about it.... she's right, wives like to be right don't they?
So far so good!

.......28 days

My husband has decided and agreed to the 28 day program..... I say has decided, but really....... if I want to be completely honest....... their was NO pressure, NO encouragement, NO ultimatums on my part WHATSOEVER!  lol.
Gene will eat healthy at home, but falls short when he is at work, driving to work, driving home from work..... okay lets just say when he's not at home. Snack cakes, cookies and the occasional McDonalds passes his lips. Ugh, Yuck! Which he is realizing is it is destroying his body. He's tired of feeling like he has no energy, tired of feeling all the aches and pains and wants to feel like he is in control of his moods. So his sweet wife...... yep me, said hey "why don't you try the 28 day program" his comment to me was, "I'm okay with my current weight". I said, "great but your not happy with how you feel... which is why the 28 day program is so great!"

How do you want to be seen?

Have you asked yourself that question.... How do you want people to see you?
 I desire a life that is full of blessings, surrounded by like people. I want people to feel comfortable in my presence and in my home.   Pastor Rob said Sunday how he had a pilot who stayed in his home that used a spare room whenever he was in town. And when this man would come to the front door he would feel this overwhelming sense of place, like he longed to be in their home.  Have you ever felt that way about someones home?  You know the one where you just can't wait to get there.  I know I have...... and I do!  That type of home, when you walk in, you can't explain it but you just long to be there.... it makes you feel good inside, you feel calm and relaxed and your like "how long can I stay?"  It's those type of people..... that have that type of home that you feel drawn to. Like wherever they are..... weather it's in their home, workplace, the mall or grocery store........ those type of people are SPILLING out kindness, love and blessings to other people. 
I want to be known as that kind of person, I want us to have that type of home, I want my children and my children's friends to come and feel..... Out - of- this-world.... welcome and drawn to our home. When I am absent or gone for a day or a week or a month, I want to be genuinely missed because someone misses that kind of presence in their life.

were still going strong!

Just a little update on how the girls are doing! Everyone is still going strong. Each of us at our own pace, some a little faster than others and that is so totally fine! I just came of 28days of hard core watch what I eat and now have put 1lb back on--- totally normal :) I have a little over a week to take off about 3.5 pounds to make one of my goals my coach set for March 18th..... to be under 160 or else pay the fine! which is no going out to lunch for one month! Eeek!
What I am most proud of with this group of ladies is that they keep at it, sure they have a bad day or 2 but they get back to the changes they have made.
That's all it takes...... the courage to take that step, and keep stepping and then RUN and JUMP! wahooo it feels so good!!!!!

Sometimes you need to jump!

Ever feel like the risk of drowning is more appealing than jumping to someone who can save you? 

I have been working so hard at being though, getting my thick skin back and trying to prove something, that without realizing it I pushed away my support system. I have been treading water for the past month and it's taken it's toll on my spirit.  
Out of difficult times....... new growth occurs. As much as I don't like it... and who does?? I needed to remind myself that we are brought to a place that may feel overwhelming at times.......for a reason. Thankfully I have a support system set in place to remind me.... Sometimes you put so much effort into what feels good and feels comfortable, only to find out your running away from what isn't comfortable and doesn't feel good. 
This week I FINALLY took a jump...... No, I took a leap! I listened and trusted and as hard as it was, I got through it. I did not like it..... not at all, but what an amazing feeling it is to have a feeling of..... freedom.  Really that is what it is; freedom to think, and act and do...... how I feel Jenny Flynn should. Not because of my past, not because of what was necessarily learned, not because of what I thought people would think. I am FREE to be ME. I have released myself and I accept Jenny Flynn for who Jenny Flynn is........ 100% and that is called...... Grace. 
If you struggle with your past, if you struggle with your identity, if you struggle with believing in yourself....... Jump..... JUmp......JUMp.......JUMP!  You will come out the other side a better person.

what's my problem?

Okay I am going to be pretty open, honest and real here
...... READER BEWARE!

I have this really distorted view when I look in the mirror. I don't necessarily see 246lb Jen, but I SEE 200lb+ Jen. Which makes me FEEL like 246 lb Jen and makes me THINK like 246lb Jen and then sometimes ACT like 246lb Jen.
I am at a point in my Journey where I feel really lost at times with who I am......... For those of you saying oh quit your complaining and be happy with how you look,  let me explain it this way:
For the past year I have changed:
PHYSICALLY that is the most obvious.  I don't look the same, I don't feel the same (not as tired, improved health, improved mood)
When I would go shopping I really only had one place to shop and they ultimately set my style. Now I can shop anywhere but I feel like I don't really know what to buy, what looks good on me, where to shop, and even what size is right?  I know what a problem to have right?
I've changed SPIRITUALLY: we left our church, a church we had attended for 5 years we LOVED our pastor and his family. We have since moved to a new church that has amazing qualities about it, but we are still trying to find where we "fit" with the church.
I have changed MENTALLY: I use to always have a "poor me" attitude, I had a lot of negative thoughts about life in general, towards others and towards myself.  At that time everyone in life was "bad", "trust know one but yourself" now I have been working hard at, not poor me but "lucky me" I am doing what 1,000's of people want to do.
I have changed my LIFESTYLE: I have changed my employment, leaving a company I was a part of for 16 years and really changing my roll and position, what I am working towards achieving in my life and career.
I have changed my friendships,  my family.......no just kidding about my family I did not get a new family! But I did find and keep my sense of humor! The people that I confide in, associate with, lean on  are completely different from 15 months ago. I make sure the people I associate with now on a regular basis have positive uplifting personalities, they have the same goals, vision and desire for life. And those that don't I am cautious how I let them into my life. Which is really hard and sad at times.

My circle of friends and support system...... AMAZING, my family support....... AMAZING. My coach......... AMAZING......  So why can't I embrace who I am?

..........Because I don't want to let go of who I was. Because there are pieces of  me that rely on certain pieces of the old Jen and I am struggling how to let them go?

whew..... feels better just to write it!!!

Having said all that.... I would not change a thing, I would not go back to who I was, I would not change my past but I am confident I WILL change my future. I WILL change how I view myself..... worthy of change, worthy of forgiveness, worthy of a life of abundance and vitality. Worthy of a life God has planned for me......
